Assassin’s Creed Hexe, the sequel to Ubisoft Montreal’s Assassin’s Creed game, has been revealed largely shrouded in mystery, with little information available (at least publicly). The game was first announced with a short teaser showing where Hexe could be found in 2022. The teaser also gave fans a glimpse of the title’s official logo.

Since then, Ubisoft has not released any details; This is understandable, considering that the game is not expected to be released anytime soon. Assassin’s Creed Hexe (or codename Hexe) is thought to be the next game after Assassin’s Creed Red, which has no release date yet.

However, in recent months, many rumors and leaks have emerged that reveal not only Hexe’s character, but also its hero, supernatural abilities, gameplay system and more.

Everything we know about Assassin’s Creed Hexe so far

According to Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed Hexe is going to be “a different type of game,” foregoing the previous titles’ 100+ hours long RPG structure for a more focused, narrative-driven experience. While Ubisoft never disclosed the game’s setting officially, the teaser they showcased during Ubisoft Forward 2022 did hint at a 16th-century European setting.

More details about the upcoming game have recently surfaced online, thanks to Insider Gaming, who spotted a short video of Ubisoft’s Creass Hexe Assassin’s Creed game. Insider Gaming reports that Hexe will feature Elsa, a heroine who appears to have supernatural abilities.

While the full scope of his powers wasn’t explained or shown in the brief gameplay footage viewed by
Insider Gaming, it did show a small taste of what he can do. In the games, Elsa is hunted by 16th-century German soldiers and uses magic to tame a nearby cat to escape.

The game then gives control to the cat, and the player uses it to hit the glass bottle, distracting the guards and giving Elsa a chance to escape. Assassin’s Creed games have characters like Kassandra (Odyssey), Eivor (Valhalla), and Ratonhnhaké:ton/Connor (AC3) who display supernatural abilities, so this isn’t out of left field.

However, the supernatural powers of these characters are focused on active combat, granting additional combat skills or enhancing existing skills. Elsa, on the other hand, seems to have very different supernatural abilities.

Moreover, sources close to Games Insider claim that the game will include a feature similar to the “Fear System” in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s Jack the Ripper DLC. The Fear System allowed protagonist Evie or Jack’s nemesis Jack to strike fear into enemies oppressing nearby NPCs.

This was a great addition to Jack the Ripper as it not only added to the game’s combat but also matched the style and atmosphere of the DLC. It looks like Ubisoft Montreal is trying to deliver a similar experience to the less popular AC Syndicate DLC, albeit on a much larger scale.

While it’s understandable that some fans can’t handle the supernatural elements of Assassin’s Creed Hexe, the way these abilities are used in the game is interesting. Jack the Ripper, for all its flaws, was an interesting concept, and seeing a similar experience, albeit on a much larger scale, was interesting to say the least.
